Vivien is trying to forget about earth and embrace her native land of Foh’Ran but it’s harder than it sounds. For one thing they’ve never heard of coffee! How can a place exist without coffee! Time is faster in Foh’Ran and even a quick trip to earth for essentials can cost her precious time she doesn’t have. She needs to be focused on meeting the King who has her throne. Vivien doesn’t want her birthright but she does want to do good things for her people and has decided to stay in Foh’Ran to see what she can do.Brad is having trouble staying strictly professional when he is so in love with Dame Vivien. It doesn’t make things any easier that Vivien wasn’t raised with the rules of high court and doesn’t think that their love is unproved. Between Brad and Aeden they start teaching her the ways of court and channeling. She must learn to channel if she is going to have allies and have any chance of being Queen.
The next book in the story didn’t disappoint. It brought new love and magic as well as heart break and anger. Big changes were coming at the end of the book and I look forward to reading the next installment to see where things will go.

Quickening QuickSilver Codex Book 2 eBook Kallysten Reviews
(I got this book free in a buy book 1, get book 2 offer). I have to admit, this series drew me in and I was excited to read the sequel, Quickening, immediately after Bodyguards (although Quickening had been farther down my TBR list). Good character development, and while the story seemed dragged out in places during the first book, I think overall, the story and plot were well done, and the story ran smoother in the second installment. While book one did not have one of those annoying cliffhangers, it was obvious there was more to the story and a book 3 will resolve an open ending. I am curious to see were this story goes, as Book two did leave the door open for a lot of drama in the third book. A great series.
I devoured both QuickSilver Codex installments, Bodyguards and Quickening, over a single weekend - now I am forced to wait for the next release, Bloodchild.
I am not sure why I keep letting Kallysten do this to me. I find myself so entrenched in the worlds she creates that it is often a couple of days before I recover and can attempt to read another book. I find myself wondering what Vivien, Braden, and Aedan are going to face next. Her ability to fully develop characters without subjecting the reader to prolonged dictions is startling. As a reader, I thrive on her sharp-decisive writing style. She has introduced me to a triad of characters that I am eager to see find their happily ever after.

This book picks up where the first in the series leaves off, and it really would be beneficial to read this series in order. Vivien is struggling with a new way of living as the entitled heir to the kingdom, yet completely unfamiliar with their ways she must be able to convince the other challengers to the throne that she is both capable and desired as Queen.
Aside from challengers, her connection and love relationship with Bradan, one of her guards is strengthening, and she has come to some simple agreement with his twin, also her guard Aeden. In this story, Kallysten has managed to further develop the world, and we are learning about the world of Foh'Ran with Vivien. This serves to increase the tension for the reader Vivien's learning is imperative and provides a fuller picture; both broadly described and nuanced which aid in the reader's visualization. There is much time devoted to Vivien's internal struggles and insecurities all completely logical for her situation, if not always understood by the only two who fully understand her dilemma her bodyguards Bradan and Aedan.
Until the last 15% of the book or so, this is an almost wholly character driven story action is mostly interpersonal. The story climaxes with a twist that will forever change the relationships and dynamics between the three, and places a whole new set of complications that will start to be explored in the next book. This is, like many of Kallysten's books, a novella length series episode that is quick to devour and painful to wait for the next installment. I liked this more than the introduction to the series, the changes and development of the characters brought a deeper connection and understanding of them, while presenting them as admirable, but flawed people with good intentions.
